The Organizing Committee announces the start of submissions for the International Photo Contest “Woman Farmer: Faces of the Earth.” This large-scale project aims to capture and show the world the true heroines of our time: the women whose hands are shaping the future of agriculture.
Global Context: 2026 – International Year of the Woman Farmer (IYWF 2026)
The current year, 2026, has been declared by the United Nations as the International Year of the Woman Farmer. This historic decision aims to draw attention to the crucial role of women in all segments of agrifood systems – from production to trade. The contest highlights the immense contribution of women working in the Russian agricultural sector and around the world to ensuring national and global food security.
In furtherance of this global agenda, the contest organizer – the Regional Public Organization “International Union of Women” – is implementing the project with the technical assistance of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Liaison Office with the Russian Federation, which serves as a co-organizer of the photo contest. The project is also supported by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.
Purpose of the Contest
To create a unique photographic chronicle of the labor, traditions, and way of life of women farmers, to popularize agricultural professions, and to visually support the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including ending hunger and ensuring gender equality.
Contest Categories
This season, participants are offered five inspiring categories:
🔹 “Portrait on the Land” – An artistic portrait of a woman farmer.
🔹 “Labor as Art” – Reportage and staged shots of the work process.
🔹 “Gifts of the Earth” – Still lifes and macro shots of produce.
🔹 “Traditions and Modernity” – The blend of age-old traditions and innovations.
🔹 “Family Farm” – Women working with their families and passing on experience to their children.
Who Can Participate?
Professional photographers, amateurs, and women farmers themselves, acting either as the authors or the heroines of the photos, are invited to participate. There are no age restrictions. Participation in the contest is free.
Key Dates
Submissions: from March 1 to September 25, 2026.
Results Announcement: by October 25, 2026.
What Awaits the Winners?
Winners and finalists will be awarded certificates of merit. Their works will be included in a special photo album-catalog “Woman Farmer: Faces of the Earth” and will be presented at final photo exhibitions in Moscow, Russian regions, and at international venues. The best photographs will also be published in leading media outlets.
