Amazing Stones Park: Geological heritage as the basis of cultural identity

On April 28, 2025, the conference “Formation of Russian and Moscow Cultural Identity” was held in Moscow with the support of. The event was dedicated to issues of cultural identity in a multipolar world (the project is being implemented with the support of Grants from the Mayor of Moscow for socially oriented NGOs of the Committee for Public Relations and Youth Policy of the City of Moscow).

Participated in the Conference as an expert speaker.  Alexander Vladimirovich Raptovsky, Honored Builder of Russia, Director of the Museum of Amazing Stones.

Alexander Vladimirovich spoke on the topic: “Park of Amazing Stones: geological heritage as the basis of cultural identity”.

Dear conference participants!

In today’s world, where globalization is blurring the boundaries between cultures, it is especially important to preserve the unique heritage that shapes the identity of our country. Russia is not only rich in history, language
and traditions, but also amazing natural resources that preserve the memory
of the most ancient eras.

Today I want to introduce you to a project that combines science, culture
and tourism – the Amazing Stones Park and the Museum of Ammonites and Minerals
in Moscow. This is not just an exhibition of rare exhibits, but a large-scale educational project that can become a new point of attraction.
for residents and guests of the capital.

Cultural value of geological heritage
Natural objects – stones, minerals, fossils – are the same carriers of the cultural code as architectural monuments or works of art.

Why is this important to us today?

– Connection with the history of the Earth – some exhibits of the Park are older than dinosaurs. By touching them, people literally feel the passage of time.

– National treasure – the collection contains unique samples from all over Russia: Ural jasper, Caucasian jadeite, Khakass gems.

– Educational potential – the project makes complex geological processes understandable and interesting for people of all ages.

In the era of digitalization, it is especially valuable to create places where you can literally touch history.

Amazing Stones Park: concept and uniqueness
2.1. What is a Park?

This is the first landscape geopark in Russia where exhibits are not hidden
behind display cases – they can be touched, photographed, and studied.

Basic elements:

– Giant boulders (up to 64 tons) – some resemble figures of animals or mythical creatures due to the natural “treatment” by wind and water.

– Ammonite Collection – more than 150 fossils of ancient mollusks collected in different regions of the country.

– Rare minerals, such as jade and jadeite, which are highly valued
in the world.

– A moraine oak up to 8,000 years old is a natural artifact that has survived several epochs.

2.2. Scientific and social mission

The park is designed as a multifunctional space:

– Educational programs – excursions, master classes, lectures by scientists.

– The tourist cluster is a place of attraction for nature
and science lovers.

– A platform for events – festivals, exhibitions, scientific conferences.

Important: the project is especially important for family holidays, combining entertainment
and learning.

The role of the project in strengthening cultural identity
As the capital, Moscow should be not only a political, but also a cultural center that unites the heritage of all regions of Russia.

How does the Rock Park contribute to this?

– Popularizes the natural heritage – shows the richness of the bowels of Russia.

– Creates new traditions, for example, conducting geological quests for schoolchildren.

– Strengthens the country’s image – such unique objects increase interest in Russia as a destination for educational tourism.

In the future, the Park may become:

– Part of Moscow’s tourist routes.

– A platform for international scientific events.

– A symbol of respect for the natural heritage.

Conclusion

The Amazing Stones Park is more than an open–air museum.
This is a project that, through the prism of geology, tells about the richness
and diversity of our country, fosters respect for its nature and history.

I am confident that its implementation will make a significant contribution to the preservation of Russia’s cultural identity and open up new opportunities for science, education and tourism.

I invite all interested parties to cooperate!
