Bridges of Friendship: how Public Diplomacy unites Nations at the IWC Spring Fair

One of the brightest and warmest events in the international life of the capital took place in Moscow — the Charity Spring Bazaar. The event was organized by the International Women’s Club (IWC), which unites the spouses of ambassadors of foreign countries and foreign diplomats. At the invitation of the organizers, the fair was visited by a delegation of the International Women’s Union (IWU) headed by the President of the organization Alfiya Amirova. The Russian delegation also included members of the union Tatiana Zelenchenkova and Yulia Gorkova.

In modern geopolitical realities, it is public diplomacy and “soft power” that assume the most important mission — to remain a reliable bridge between peoples. Strengthening humanitarian contacts, sincere respect for each other’s traditions, and open cultural dialogue are the only true path to harmony, stability, and creativity in an emerging multipolar world. Today, cultural diplomacy works more than any formal meetings. Through cuisine, art and traditions, people get to know each other better, find common values and common ground. The last fair clearly proved that the desire for friendship and mutual understanding is able to unite people, regardless of any boundaries.
Kaleidoscope of world cultures and traditions
The fair site has become a unique cultural exchange space. Diplomatic missions of dozens of countries, including Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Lebanon, Thailand and many others, have deployed their national pavilions filled with color and authentic goods. Visitors were able to make a real trip around the world: taste traditional treats at an international food court, get acquainted with the customs of different countries and purchase unique national souvenirs. The real decoration of the holiday was the colorful performances of national creative teams, which filled the atmosphere with music and lively emotions.

A worthy representation of Russia: quality and tradition
The Russian Federation was represented at the event at the highest level, which aroused great interest among foreign diplomats and guests. Domestic manufacturers and craftsmen demonstrated the reference quality of products in which centuries-old traditions are harmoniously combined with modern standards:

  • Unique products made of natural linen, reflecting the aesthetics of Russian costume and everyday life.
  • Masterpieces of folk art crafts are boxes with lacquer miniature on mother-of—pearl.
  • High-quality groceries and premium chocolate.
  • Organic fresh vegetables grown in farms in the Moscow region

Russian and foreign stands were located in a single exhibition space. This neighborhood created an amazing sense of harmony, where each participant sincerely rejoiced at the successes of his colleagues, and a wonderful atmosphere of friendship and mutual respect prevailed around.

Charity for peace
The most important part of the program was a charity auction and a holiday lottery. A special symbolic moment of the evening was the gesture of goodwill from the Russian side. IWU President Alfiya Amirova presented an exclusive handmade flower brooch as a lottery prize.

By a happy and deeply symbolic coincidence, the wife of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lebanese Republic became the owner of this exquisite work of art. This touching moment once again confirmed that genuine art and sincere human warmth are able to unite the hearts of people from all over the world.

A look into the future
The International Union of Women and the IWC International Women’s Club have a long-standing partnership and truly friendly relations. Both organizations have been making a significant contribution to the development of international relations for many years.

The IWU delegation expresses its deep gratitude to the President of the IWC International Women’s Club, Ms. Rosa Cristina Laureiro (wife of the Ambassador of Ecuador), as well as to the entire organizing committee for the invitation and impeccable organization of the event at the highest diplomatic level. The fair has become a vivid evidence that cultural diplomacy is a creative force that makes our world closer, clearer and safer.
