From September 5 to 8, the VIII All-Russian Festival of Artistic Creativity of small Finno-Ugric and Samoyed peoples “Melodies of the North Wind” was held on the territory of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region.
The decoration of the festival was the photo exhibition “Family. The strength of traditions is the strength of the country.” Within the framework of the exhibition, not only photographic works provided by creative teams were exhibited, but also photographs of participants The international photo contest “Mother and children in national costumes”. The organizer of the photo contest “Mother and Children in national costumes” is the International Women’s Union.
The exhibition was exhibited at the Russian Ethnographic Museum and on the territory of the Priory Park in Gatchina, the audience was presented with 22 photographs showing modern families preserving the traditions and values of their people, as well as 18 stands describing the number and settlement of these peoples, as well as containing archival photographs depicting families of the early 20th century.
The participants of the festival were creative teams and craftsmen from the Republic of Karelia, the Udmurt Republic, the Nenets, Khanty-Mansiysk, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrugs, the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Leningrad, Murmansk and Pskov regions.The International Women’s Union thanks The House of Folk Art of the Leningrad region for cooperation and the provided photographic material!For reference:
The international photo contest “Mother and Children in national costumes” has been in existence since 2019. In 2022, the project entered the year of cultural heritage of the peoples of Russia. The photo contest was presented in digital format at the SPIEF in June 2023. The 5th anniversary photo contest is being held under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO with the support of the Federal Agency for Nationalities of Russia and the Moscow City Branch of the All-Russian Public Organization “Russian Geographical Society”. The 6th International Photo Contest “Mother and Children in National Costumes”, which is planned to be held in 2025, received the aegis of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO. The head of the International Photo Contest is Alfiya Amirova, President of the International Women’s Union.
