Musical folklore of the peoples of the Commonwealth countries presented in the Russian State Library

On January 25, 2022, in Moscow, in the Russian State Library, as part of the official events of the Year of Folk Art and Cultural Heritage, announced in 2022 by the decision of the Council of CIS Heads of State with the support of the CIS Executive Committee, the grand opening of the book and illustrative exhibition “Musical Folklore of the peoples of the Commonwealth countries” took place.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by representatives of the diplomatic missions of the Commonwealth countries in Moscow, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the CIS Executive Committee, representatives of public associations, figures of science and culture, news agencies of the CIS countries.

President of the  “International Women’s Union” – Amirova Alfiya was invited to the opening ceremony.

The event was hosted by Svetlana Malinina, Head of the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

At the exhibition, the guests saw the most striking examples of musical folklore of the peoples of the Commonwealth countries – Russian, Belarusian, Armenian, Kazakh, Turkmen, Ukrainian, Moldovan, Azerbaijani, Tajik, Kyrgyz, Uzbek.

The traditional heritage of the peoples is represented by:

  • songs of the ashugs, who are the first musicians of Azerbaijan, a variety of genres of songs, dances, mughams;
  • Kazakh dastans from Uighur mukams, folk songs accompanied by dombra, shan-kobyz, arrangements of kuys;
  • plays for komuz performed by the famous and famous Kyrgyz folk singer Toktogul Satylganov;
  • samples of the Uzbek folk epic “Suluvkhan”, songs “Omon er”;
  • Turkmen songs and plays for gidzhak, dutar;
  • Tajik folk tunes for doira, dudar;
  • dances and folk songs and plays of Belarus with the accompaniment of pipes, cymbals, wheel lyre;
  • famous Ukrainian spring songs, Kupala songs;
  • Moldovan tunes for naya (Pan’s flute), chimpoya (bagpipes), fluera (pipe);
  • songs of Komitas, who laid the foundations of Armenian national music, songs of gusans, pieces for saz, tar, kemanchi, duduk.
